Absolutely fantastic! I stayed at a wonderfully strange hotel in San Francisco whose cafe was painted with scenes from the Bodleian Library MS Bodley 264. I had thought they were just funky little illustrations until today, when I immediately recognized them in this list. What a treat :)
You can get very nice synthetic ultramarine now that looks very similar to lapis lazuli and is nowhere near as expensive! I once bought 10 grams of lapis lazuli for 50€
These feel delightfully immune to time, whimsical, imaginative, and brimming with original vision. That’s a rare thing these days. I can only imagine how wonderful they must be in person. Thanks so much for sharing the sources with us.

I love this manuscript sooo much, every time I get to mention it I get si excited!! <3 also, I've been seeing these images for a long time now about courtly love and i didn't know they came from Cortex Manasse, this is a nice discovery :) thank you for sharing these beautiful manuscripts and feeding my medievalist soul <3
The Tacuinum Sanitatis is fascinating! the images almost reverse the usual medieval hierarchy of text and illustration… the pictures carry the health advice more vividly than the writing itself. Looking at them today feels strangely contemporary.
Just want to add the fantastic St John’s Bible reproduced by renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson. I know it’s a bit out of turn from the ancients you’ve listed, but I can’t tell you how beautiful these books and contents are! I saw them displayed at Salisbury Cathedral- if you can, go and see!!

Of course! It was the Cornell Hotel de France - the cafe was Jeanne d’Arc themed
